A message from the parents of Alexis Claire Snow White, the young woman for whom this award is named:

Our daughter passed away suddenly in 2010 at the young age of 16 years. Alexis always had great love and care for her family and friends, and gave generously to those in need. She had many special qualities and gifts, including being a talented young artist. She also showed a passion for our traditional Blackfoot ways.

Alexis was given a Blackfoot name, Kamotaki, by her late grandfather, the well-known Siksika artist Aloysius Manybears (Blackfoot Panaohkomi, meaning Early Thunder). Kamotaki means Rescue Woman, a powerful name that can help others to reach for their full potential.

To honour her memory, and to create a legacy for Alexis, her family has partnered with OKAKI to establish the Kamotaki (Rescue Woman) Memorial Award. Every year, selected young people, who are pursuing excellence in any field of their choice, will receive a financial award to support them in achieving their goals.
