OKAKI is very pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Tyler White (Natoyiipiitawotaan – “Holy Eagle Shield”) to its Board of Directors, and in the role of Vice President, Indigenous Health.
A proud member of the Siksika First Nation, Dr. White has devoted 25 years of service and pioneering efforts to Alberta’s health system. During his tenure as Chief Executive Officer, Siksika Health Services significantly expanded services, achieved Exemplary Status with Accreditation Canada, and established the first Indigenous primary care alternate relationship plan in the province. He has held many province-wide leadership roles such as President of the First Nations Health Consortium of Alberta, Co-Chair of the Alberta First Nations COVID-19 Task Force, member of the Alberta Mental Health and Child Review Panel, member of the Alberta Ministerial Panel on Child Intervention, Co-Chair of the Operations and Support Sub-Committee of Co-Management, Indigenous Panel Chair of the Modernizing Alberta’s Primary Health Care System Engagement, the first Indigenous member of the Council of the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA), and the first Co-Chair of the CPSA Indigenous Advisory Circle. He has received numerous accolades during his distinguished career, including most recently, a Queens Jubilee Medal for health excellence in 2022 and a King Charles III Coronation Medal this year for community leadership.
Since OKAKI’s inception in 2008, Dr. White has been a strong partner, advocate, sponsor and believer in our mission and OKAKI’s ability to transform the public health and Indigenous healthcare landscape through data, digital health innovation, and the dismantling of jurisdictional and organizational barriers. He brings to OKAKI his tremendous experience, unwavering commitment to children, youth and Indigenous peoples, and his remarkable ability to strengthen Indigenous voices through innovative partnerships, inside and outside the healthcare system.
We are honoured to formally welcome Dr. White to OKAKI and we look forward to the new challenges and positive impact that his leadership is sure to bring.
